Shaheen & Hassan Announce $3.8M to Support Early Childhood Care & Education

(Washington, DC) — U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) today announced $3,843,557 from the Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Office of Child Care to the University System of New Hampshire. This Preschool Development Grant will strengthen New Hampshire’s early childhood education system and work to improve outcomes for children, families, schools and communities. Specifically, this grant will fund research on child and family systemic needs and the development of a strategic plan to create a comprehensive coordinated early childhood care and education system

“Providing a comprehensive early childhood education can make an enormous difference for a child’s life, particularly for those who come from families that are struggling financially or are impacted by substance use disorder,” said Shaheen, who has consistently advocated for this federal funding as a senior member of the Appropriations Committee. “I’m very pleased to announce this funding which will allow UNH to reach more children and families. I will continue to advocate for resources like this that make important investments in the next generation of New Hampshire students.”

“Ensuring that all of our children have a high-quality education from a young age is essential to their future success and the strength of our state as a whole,” said Hassan. “By helping to bolster preschool infrastructure and expand preschool programs to more families in the Granite State, this federal funding will help build a brighter future for more of our youngest citizens.”
