Shaheen, Hassan and Pappas Announce More Than 200K in Federal Grant Funding for Strawbery Banke Museum

(Washington, DC) –Today, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, along with U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) announced that the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) has awarded $218,220 in federal funding to the Strawbery Banke Museum. IMLS is an independent federal agency that provides federal support for American libraries and museums. The grant will be used by the museum to develop and implement new interpretive strategies and programs for visitors in the historic Captain Walsh House located on its campus.

 
“Strawbery Banke is a New Hampshire treasure that provides visitors to Portsmouth a glimpse into the city’s rich and vibrant past and the earliest foundations of our state,” said Senator Shaheen. “I’m pleased that IMLS awarded the museum with this federal funding, which will allow it to develop new and creative programs and activities to further enrich the experiences of visitors. I’ll always be a fierce advocate for federal resources that invest in our libraries and museums in New Hampshire to ensure generations to come understand our state’s historic founding and contributions to our country.”
 
“Strawbery Banke creates a unique historical experience for its visitors, allowing them to truly immerse themselves in over 300 years of American history,” Senator Hassan said. “This grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to Strawbery Banke will help foster an even more inclusive and engaging experience for those who seek to learn more about our state’s and our country’s rich history.”
 
“The Strawbery Banke Museum is a piece of living New Hampshire history that showcases so much of what makes me proud to represent the First District,” said Congressman Pappas.  “I am glad to see that the Institute of Museum and Library Services has recognized the rich history New Hampshire’s coast, which these federal dollars will go a long way to help preserve.”
